定义Definition
A Büchner funnel is a porcelain, plastic or glass funnel with a flat, perforated plate at the bottom; covered with filter paper and fitted to a filter flask, it is used for vacuum filtration.
Design and use
The funnel stem passes through a rubber bung or cone into the filter flask, with the bevel of the stem facing away from the side arm so filtrate is not drawn into the vacuum line. The paper is cut slightly smaller than the inner diameter, laid flat over all the holes, wetted with a little solvent and sucked down. The similar Hirsch funnel is conical and suits small samples, and sintered-glass funnels need no paper and resist acids.
由来Origin
The German industrial chemist Ernst Büchner invented it in 1888. It is often wrongly credited to the Nobel laureate Eduard Buchner, who discovered cell-free fermentation; they were different people.
应用Applications
It is used to collect recrystallised crystals, isolate solid products of syntheses, filter precipitates and rapidly filter large solid–liquid mixtures at scale.
